  • Ran the first 7.5 miles at a sub 7:00/mi pace, then met up with Kristen and ran with her home. [10.15 mi @ 7:45 min/mi]
    10.15 mile run on 3/15/2011
  • Supposed to be an epic 30+ mile run, however I didn't get to sleep soon enough plus the switch to DST... its amazing I even woke up. [12.2 mi @ 8:01 min/mi]
    12.2 mile run on 3/13/2011
  • Took a new route, running to Shawnee Mission Park and back. Enjoyable run, with the exception of two miles of commercial business that I had to run through. Going out wasn't that bad, but by the time I was heading home a lot of people were out shopping. [28.4 mi @ 8:30 min/mi]
    4 hour run on 3/12/2011
  • Sick yesterday, but felt recovered today. Bummed that I missed those five miles yesterday. [9 mi @ 7:05 min/mi]

  • Felt GREAT on this run, as evidenced by the time. [9 mi @ 6:46 min/mi]
    9 mile run on 3/8/2011
  • Needed to run more, but was anxious about being on call and being unavailable if I got a call. [8 mi @ 7:35 min/mi]

  • Busy day, had to cut my run short. [16 mi @ 8:05 min/mi]

  • Nice day, got a little cool towards the end. [9 mi @ 7:04 min/mi]
    9 mile run on 3/1/2011
  • Felt really good for the first part of the run, but with eight miles left I realized that I really should have brought some water with me. Didn't really anticipate going out that far, which is why I didn't bring the water along... Won't make that mistake again. [24.1 mi @ 7:52 min/mi]
    24.1 mile run on 2/27/2011
  • The trail was a consistent sheet of black ice. The temperature warmed up enough for the last three miles where I could run on the trail without slipping instead of running beside the trail. [16.5 mi @ 8:49 min/mi]
    16.5 mile run on 2/26/2011
  • What a change from yesterday. Sleet, freezing temperatures. The sleet was getting into my eyes, so I called it quits for today. [1.2 mi @ 7:08 min/mi]

  • Beautiful weather today, made for a good run. [5 mi @ 6:45 min/mi]
    5 mile run on 2/23/2011
  • After a couple of days off helped refuel my energy. Its strange how I can run a marathon or more on weekends now, and not be as hungry as I used to be post-marathon distance runs. My body is adapting, and its kind of freaky... [9.6 mi @ 6:56 min/mi]
    9.6 mile run on 2/22/2011
  • I just didn't feel like running today, even after I logged the first couple of hours, I just didn't feel like running. I think it had to do with how I slept the previous night, which was not very well. Tied together with getting up really early and I just didn't feel good. [26.4 mi @ 8:19 min/mi]
    26.4 mile run on 2/19/2011
  • Great time of year. Mild temperature, snow is melting, and just enough sunlight so I can complete my after-work run. [9 mi @ 7:18 min/mi]
    9 mile run on 2/17/2011
  • The only problem with the weather getting nicer is that everyone is out and about on the trail. With the water puddles and their slow movement I find myself almost splashing them and their kids. [5 mi @ 7:02 min/mi]
    5 mile run on 2/16/2011
  • I felt like I was running faster than this, but I guess my legs are still tired from the weekend. Most of the trail is clear of ice and snow, which is good. Just a few pockets of standing water, and a few areas where it is solid ice. [9 mi @ 7:17 min/mi]
    9 mile run on 2/15/2011
  • A little slower going today, mainly because the snow turned into ice overnight. Split the run into two; 2.5 hours, and an hour run later on. Glad I split the run into two, the last seven ended up being better than if I had run them at the same time, if that makes any sense. 51.4 miles for the weekend. [23.4 mi @ 8:58 min/mi]
    23.4 mile run on 2/13/2011
  • Four hour run scheduled for today. I'll be happy once the trail is clear of all of the snow. Traction was Ok, but it will be nice not having to worry about it anymore. [28.12 mi @ 8:30 min/mi]
    28.12 mile run on 2/12/2011
  • Didn't fall today, so that was good. Knee still hurts a little from yesterday; feels more like a bruise than anything. [9 mi @ 7:04 min/mi]
    9 mile run on 2/10/2011
  • Not a horrible time considering the snow and ice. Surprisingly enough, today was the first day I fell; I was in my neighborhood, turning on a street, and the recent snow was hiding some slick ice. I fell, and rolled into the middle of the street. Fortunately no one was coming, otherwise I would have been hit - hard. [9 mi @ 7:15 min/mi]
    9 mile run on 2/9/2011
  • Decent run, seemed like the trail had been plowed a second time, but everything that melted refroze making a few parts very slick. [6 mi @ 6:40 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 2/7/2011
  • Didn't make it home quite in time for the 2 hr run, but I blame the snow and ice on the trail. Felt good. [15 mi @ 8:20 min/mi]

    5 mile run on 2/2/2011
  • I'm back! Actually, I've been running since my marathon, but I just never felt obligated to log it online. I plan on going back and logging my monthly totals for the past few months, and I'll try to be better with logging my times for the remainder of the year. Snow (Blizzard!) so I'm on the treadmill until the path is cleared. [5 mi @ 7:35 min/mi]
    5 mile run on 2/1/2011
  • Faster than I thought I was going. Enjoying this colder weather, and the effects are obvious. [10.15 mi @ 6:35 min/mi]
    10.15 mile run on 11/7/2010

    7.75 mile run on 11/5/2010

    8 mile run on 11/4/2010
  • Surprised at how sore my legs feel after taking a week off from running. I think this week I'll only shoot for mileage in the mid-40's. [6.1 mi @ 6:32 min/mi]
    6.1 mile run on 11/2/2010
  • Decent weather, ending with a light sprinkle. I forgot that once the days start getting shorter, there are fewer people on the trail. A little lonely out there. [8 mi @ 6:48 min/mi]

    6 mile run on 10/20/2010

  • Legs are SORE! [4.1 mi @ 7:32 min/mi]
    4.1 mile run on 10/17/2010
  • Boston qualified! This run started out at a pace I thought would cause me to burn out at, and around mile 10 I thought I was going to do just that. Fortunately I was able to hold the pace steady, consistently under 7:00/mi pace until about mile 22. According to the pace band I was 10 minutes ahead of schedule, which meant I could very easily coast into the finish area as my legs started to cramp up. This race showed me that I can run in the 6:50/mi range for quite a distance, but that I'm not qu [26.2 mi @ 7:06 min/mi]

    6 mile run on 10/8/2010
  • I always tend to run faster in the evening when I run early in the morning. Either I'm really loose, or my body just doesn't care anymore. [6.1 mi @ 6:33 min/mi]
    6.1 mile run on 10/7/2010

    8.1 mile run on 10/4/2010
  • My long run needed to be cut to accommodate for a day of Golf with my brother. Felt good on this run. [10.1 mi @ 7:01 min/mi]
    10.1 mile run on 10/2/2010
  • Man, was I tired today. Yesterday's workout drained every bit of me, which was surprising as I thought only my legs would be tired. I'm glad I got through it though, and I'm definitely going to keep integrating speed into my workouts. [8.1 mi @ 6:52 min/mi]
    8.1 mile run on 9/30/2010
  • Wow, what a workout. I usually don't do speed workouts, but thought I'd try my hand at some 800 repeats. I ran 8 x 800m basically as fast as I could, with a slow 800 after each one, totaling 8 miles around the loop I was running on. The extra 3.4 miles came from getting to that loop. Fastest time was 2:51, slowest was 2:59, with most others hovering around 2:55. All in all a good workout, with speeds that I was expecting and hoping for. [11.4 mi @ 6:39 min/mi]
    11.4 mile run on 9/29/2010
  • Noticing that I'm looking at my Garmin less and less for pace. I think its because I have a better sense of how I'm doing, and am not looking for constant feedback. That said, I'd much rather run with the Garmin than without. [6.05 mi @ 6:34 min/mi]
    6.05 mile run on 9/28/2010
  • The shift in the weather is very apparent with my recent time postings. Wind was from the west this morning, so the out and back was comfortable both ways. [8 mi @ 6:58 min/mi]
    8 mile run on 9/28/2010
  • Perfect weather, but now I am looking forward to when the gnats go away. [8.1 mi @ 6:42 min/mi]
    8.1 mile run on 9/27/2010
  • Other than a technical issue with the podcast order, and my headphone wire getting caught on my camelbak for a bit the introduction of an audio source on my long runs went fairly smoothly. The Nike Flight headphones were awesome, and stayed in my ears for the entire run. Felt good through the first 14 miles or so then started getting a little tired. Around 20 I was getting winded, but a couple of 1 minute walk breaks helped out. This was a good weather day, but not perfect so I'll take what I c [22.25 mi @ 7:30 min/mi]

    6 mile run on 9/21/2010
  • Second run of the day to make up for a shorter workout in the morning. Humidity wasn't very high, but we traded it for heat. [4.1 mi @ 6:50 min/mi]
    4.1 mile run on 9/19/2010
  • Another high humidity day. Ran a bit with Kristen on my way in. [8.1 mi @ 8:10 min/mi]
    8.1 mile run on 9/19/2010
  • Wow. 95% humidity and I do not get along. I could hardly breathe, which made the run long run unbearable. I threw in the towel after 16 miles on a 20 miler. [16.5 mi @ 8:30 min/mi]
    16.5 mile run on 9/18/2010

    4.1 mile run on 9/17/2010
  • Ran the first two miles without my patellar tendon band on, then put it back on. I think I can transition away from it, but I need to be alert to any issues that pop up. It didn't hurt, but I could tell my knee was weaker than it should be. [10.2 mi @ 6:48 min/mi]

  • A walk to loosen up the legs and get some blood flowing. [4.5 mi]
    4.5 mile walk on 9/12/2010
  • Event started at noon with some clouds and a nice breeze. After 40 minutes or so the clouds left and it got very warm with no protection from the sun. Felt zapped, and while I could have finished the 26 miles I knew it would be detrimental to my training, so I stopped after 20 laps. [20.7 mi @ 8:09 min/mi]
    20.7 mile run on 9/11/2010
  • Easy run before tomorrow's event. [4 mi @ 6:57 min/mi]

    8 mile run on 9/6/2010

    8 mile run on 8/31/2010
  • It's still Summer! But, I ran in some new shoes, opting for neutral-cushioning instead of motion-control. Hopefully I'm not in for a world of hurt during the transition. [6 mi @ 7:19 min/mi]

    8.05 mile run on 8/22/2010
  • This is the farthest I've run in my Vibrams, and my left foot is paying the price. I'm hoping it's just a tendon and not anything serious (stress fracture) but I can run on it in shoes, so I'm sure its not that bad. [2 mi @ 8:13 min/mi]
    2 mile run - Vibram on 8/22/2010

    6 mile run on 8/9/2010

I was in a lot of pain in the later miles, and walked a little bit to keep it in. Fortunately I was still able to pull off a decent time, and beat the heat! [8.1 mi @ 7:44 min/mi]

  • Ran out at a slow pace, and at the turn around point I realized that the dark clouds were carrying a wicked thunderstorm. It started raining as I made my way home, but fortunately the storm brought a 20 degree temperature drop, as well as removing all of the humidity. I got inside before it got too bad. 8 mile run on 7/1/2010
  • Realized that I was not running as fast as I thought, so picked it up a bit. Those many days of running a slower pace seem to be affecting my usual running speed. Need to keep an eye on that. Pleased with the time I ended up with. [6 mi @ 7:11 min/mi]

  • Grandma's Marathon: Started with an effort that would have put me five or six minutes below 3:10, but around mile 15 realized that wasn't going to happen. Around mile 22 I realized that I needed more salt/electrolytes than what I was getting from the aid stations, and by the finish I was in pretty bad shape. Bad enough for a volunteer to say "I'm going to get someone from medical" more than once. Fortunately I was able to convince them all I need was some salt, and after eating half a bag of c [26.2 mi @ 7:52 min/mi]

    6.1 mile run on 5/24/2010
  • Another tough run in the heat and humidity. The parts where I was able to run I was going pretty quick, but I gave in and walked several times. [8.1 mi @ 8:05 min/mi]

  • Second run of the day, bringing the total daily miles up to 20ish. [4.15 mi @ 6:53 min/mi]
    4.15 mile run on 5/22/2010
  • First real battle of the year with heat and humidity, and I feel like I lost. Comparatively, this run compared to a similar one last year, I was a few minutes faster, but I would have expected to be much faster compared to my recent performance. Add in the fact that I was nearly mauled by a pack of dogs while running on a country road, and this made for a disappointing long run. [16.5 mi @ 7:46 min/mi]

1 mile barefoot run on 5/18/2010
  • Felt relaxed during this run, not overly concerned with the pace. There was a tree branch hanging over the trail, about head height, and as I approached I noticed a squirrel hanging there, on the branch. I decided to avoid the squirrel, as the only thought going through my head was of a squirrel jumping from the branch to my face. Not a pleasant thought. [12.1 mi @ 7:06 min/mi]

    20.25 mile run on 5/15/2010
  • Trail running around Spooner Lake near Lake Tahoe. East side of the lake was clear, but the west side still had about 4 foot of snow. The snow caused me to be slower, but it was still fun to run on a trail and not worry about poison ivy. [5.5 mi @ 12:43 min/mi]

    7.2 mile run on 4/29/2010
  • In Richardson, TX, and found a paved trail. The only problem is that I had to run 3.5 miles to get there. My garmin doesn't work down here, so I used gmap-pedometer.com to try and track the mileage. Its either a little short or a little long, but 11 seems right for today. [11 mi @ 7:16 min/mi]
    11 mile run on 4/28/2010
  • A brief break from rain and clouds for the hour that I was out running today. Colder than I expected though, but that is better than humidity! [8 mi @ 6:55 min/mi]

  • Very humid today, on very little sleep. [10.1 mi @ 7:35 min/mi]
    10.1 mile run on 4/24/2010

    6.1 mile run on 4/21/2010
  • The exact same time as yesterday. Differences were that I went out faster and ended having the same pace going out as I did coming back, whereas yesterday I had a negative split on the way back. Felt good except for all of the gnats who kept pelting my eyes. [8.1 mi @ 6:50 min/mi]
    8.1 mile run on 4/20/2010
  • Felt better after that 10 mile run. Looser and more relaxed. A lot different than last week, where I was sore after every run. [8.1 mi @ 6:50 min/mi]
    8.1 mile run on 4/19/2010

    10.2 mile run on 4/18/2010
  • A 10K the weekend following my marathon. I thought I would finish in the top 10, but ended up winning overall! It was a very fun race to run, as I was always in at least third place, and around mile 5 picked off the second place runner, then over took the lead shortly after. Managed to hold on, and win by about 15 seconds. Fun indeed. [6.2 mi @ 6:11 min/mi]

    8.1 mile run on 4/13/2010
  • Feeling pretty good about an 8-mile run two days after running a marathon. A little slower than I would have liked, but this is a recovery run. [8.1 mi @ 7:27 min/mi]
    8.1 mile run on 4/12/2010
  • A slow walk/run today to loosen up the legs and get some blood flowing through the muscles. Still a little sore from yesterday, but I can manage. [4 mi]
    4 mile run on 4/11/2010
  • Ran the first 17 miles at 7:00/mile pace, and after two hours of that pace, I slowed WAY down. I didn't necessarily feel tired (though I was) I just knew that if I kept pushing that hard I would have difficulty making it to the end. I started alternating between walking and running, and I must say that for the amount I walked I still got a decent time. I'm happy with the results as it shows that I am capable of running hard for an extended period of time, and if I continue to work on my enduran [26.2 mi @ 7:53 min/mi]
    Olathe Marathon on 4/10/2010
  • An easy run the day before the marathon. [3 mi @ 6:51 min/mi]

  • The low mileage seems strange, but I am tapering... Hope its not too little. [6 mi @ 7:02 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 4/1/2010

    6.1 mile run on 3/30/2010

    6 mile run on 3/25/2010
  • Left leg had a little twinge to it when I woke up, and continued through most of the day. It felt Ok when I started my run, but decided to err on the side of caution and cut the miles back a bit, and slowed down a little. Lots of stretching today. [6 mi @ 6:57 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 3/24/2010
  • An easy run today with 60+ degrees. Very nice. Walked a few times, but that was mainly to keep the overall pace easy. [12.1 mi @ 7:25 min/mi]

    8 mile run on 3/22/2010
  • Crazy weather is supposed to come in on Saturday, so I ran this after work. Kind of a daunting thing to have hanging over you all day, but I pulled it off pretty well. Noticed the following times: 13.1 miles in 1:29:54; 16 miles in 1:52:00. After that it became a matter of just finishing it, which I did. [20.1 mi @ 7:13 min/mi]

    8 mile run on 3/15/2010
  • Rescheduled yesterday's 20 miler for today to avoid the 30+MPH winds. Finished in a good time, but I'm feeling more run down than I would like. Still have a few weeks to continue building up the endurance before the April marathon. [20.2 mi @ 7:15 min/mi]
    20.2 mile run on 3/14/2010
  • Slowing the pace down, and finding that my legs aren't burning for the entire run, which is nice. [8 mi @ 7:18 min/mi]

  • Felt a little light-headed after three miles, but after walking a bit my head cleared up and I was able to finish strongly. [6 mi @ 7:03 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 3/10/2010
  • Warm weathered morning run made this session more comfortable than I thought it would be. Still running at a more relaxed effort to make up for the several days of running in a row. [8 mi @ 7:10 min/mi]
    8 mile run on 3/10/2010
  • A rest day of sorts, an easier six mile run than the previous days. [6 mi @ 7:04 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 3/9/2010
  • Still tired from the weekend run. The warm weather brought some rain with it, which was a change of pace from the winter snow from the last few months. [8 mi @ 7:11 min/mi]
    8 mile run on 3/8/2010
  • I need more runs like this. I started off a little tired from yesterday, so I was able to work on my conditioning for the entire run. [10 mi @ 6:56 min/mi]
    10 mile run on 3/7/2010
  • First of two runs today. Just felt tired on this one. [10.1 mi @ 7:26 min/mi]
    10.1 mile run on 3/6/2010
  • Second run today, for a total of 20.2 miles. Total time for the day was 2:26:03. Not a terrible overall pace, but I would have preferred running it all at once. Such is life when you are on call. [10.1 mi @ 7:01 min/mi]
    10.1 mile run on 3/6/2010
  • Second run of the day, and my legs are very tired. Worth it for tomorrow's rest day though. [6 mi @ 6:54 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 3/4/2010
  • It's finally warm enough in the morning for a run (but not warm enough that gloves and hats aren't still required...) No wind made for a good run on the out and back. [8 mi @ 7:05 min/mi]
    8 mile run on 3/4/2010
  • Caught up to another runner while I was going about 6:30/mi, then the runner turned on the boosters and away he went. Oh well, someday I'll be able to do that. :) [8.1 mi @ 6:58 min/mi]
    8.1 mile run on 3/3/2010
  • Enjoying the warmer weather, but I felt a little stiff during the last few miles. [10.1 mi @ 7:00 min/mi]
    10.1 mile run on 3/2/2010
  • Wished it was this warm on my Saturday run. Felt good, but not too hot. Cold enough so gloves were needed, but not biting. [8 mi @ 6:55 min/mi]
    8 mile run on 3/1/2010
  • Not my best running performance of late. Felt good the first 11 or so miles, then quickly went downhill as the cold wind became stronger than expected, and me realizing I was not properly dressed. The last few miles had me running with my arms burning in pain, a combination of my wet clothes being hit with the wind. Not a fun experience, but an experience non-the-less. 20 miler on tap for next weeks run, hopefully I plan better for that one. [18.4 mi @ 7:52 min/mi]
    18.4 on 2/27/2010
  • Warmer still. Its funny how much things have changed from last year to this year. Last year before a long run I wouldn't dream of running 6 miles, opting for 4 instead. This year I wouldn't dream of running 8 miles before a long run, opting for 6 instead. I still think a lot of this has to do with the 0% humidity we're in right now. Afraid once it warms up, along with the humidity, that I'll succumb to the slower pace. [6 mi @ 6:53 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 2/26/2010
  • Not as cold as yesterday, but still ice on the trail. [8 mi @ 7:06 min/mi]
    8 mile run on 2/25/2010
  • Almost made this a six mile run, but then ran around a half-mile loop to make up for the lost miles. I'm ready for it to start warming up though. [8.1 mi @ 6:58 min/mi]
    8.1 mile run on 2/24/2010
  • Ran a little slower as there was a lot more ice during miles 4 and 5. Had to take it slow, otherwise I would have fallen. [8.1 mi @ 7:10 min/mi]
    8.1 mile run on 2/23/2010
  • After a full day of rain and freezing temperatures yesterday I thought there would more ice today. Only a few spots that were slippery, with one that was completely covered in ice. I tiptoed across that section. [6 mi @ 6:53 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 2/22/2010
  • First long run in a LONG while. Felt good, but the last three miles were hard. This was a good run for my mind to get used to the idea again. [16.2 mi @ 7:17 min/mi]
    16 mile run on 2/20/2010
  • Today was going to be an easy four in the morning, followed by six in the evening. I decided sleeping was better than getting up, so I got to do it all tonight. Since my miles were uneven, I decided to tack on the last one to even things out. Enjoying the speed too. :) [11 mi @ 6:43 min/mi]
    11 mile run on 2/18/2010
  • What does it mean when a workout now, compared to last year, takes 10 minutes less time to complete? Should I increase the workout to make up for lost time? [8 mi @ 6:51 min/mi]
    8 mile run on 2/17/2010
  • Felt relaxed today. I think this is a result of running on the treadmill, which helped lengthen my stride. [8 mi @ 6:58 min/mi]
    8 mile run on 2/16/2010
  • Amazed at how much injury is burned through when trying to remain upright after slipping on ice. Almost fell over after my plant foot landed on a thick sheet, but managed to stay upright. [6 mi @ 6:55 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 2/15/2010
  • More running on the treadmill as the cold temperatures set in and the winds picked up to a sustained 20+MPH, with gusts exceeding 30MPH. [7 mi @ 7:23 min/mi]
    7 mile run on 2/14/2010
  • Treadmill running. I thought I would be able to tough it out for a little more, but it is so tedious. We'll just call this a low mileage week. [4.5 mi @ 7:42 min/mi]
    4.5 mile run on 2/13/2010
  • My cold has cleared up, but I'm still tired from a long day yesterday. [6 mi @ 7:17 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 2/13/2010
  • Day 4 of my sinus/cold. Starting to get a little worn out, but that's what I get for skipping Sunday's run. Enjoying the fact that I can run at night without my headlight. [8 mi @ 7:15 min/mi]
    8 mile run on 2/11/2010
  • Day 3 of my sinus/cold. Mucinex helped a lot today though. Started the run at 30 degrees, but I think the temp dropped significantly after the sun went down. By the end I could barely feel my face, and my arms were extremely cold. [8 mi @ 7:07 min/mi]
    8 mile run on 2/10/2010
  • Cold strong winds today. Most of the trail was clear, but there were some icy spots. Day two of my sinus cold. [8 mi @ 7:06 min/mi]
    8 mile run on 2/9/2010
  • Had the occasion to work from home, and celebrated by running during my lunch hour. Very nice. Walked a little, as I feel like I'm coming down with a cold, but still managed a decent time. [6 mi @ 7:04 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 2/8/2010
  • Ran 8, then 6, checking my on call pager in between. On the six mile leg I was a contributing factor to a fender bender. I don't believe it was my fault, since I was crossing the street in a crosswalk, when the sign told me to, but I guess a bad driver will find any opportunity to cause an accident. On the way back my knee started hurting, which hadn't happened in a while. I took Sunday off to let it rest a bit. [14 mi @ 7:10 min/mi]
    14 mile run on 2/6/2010
  • 4 inches of snow fell, but the temp was right around 32 degrees, so it was warm enough for no tights or jacket. [6 mi @ 7:10 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 2/5/2010
  • Warmer again, but this time I wore a hat. I think that helped a lot. Good easy effort today. Felt a little tired towards the end, but I think that's due to yesterday's workout, as well as not have a rest day in a while. [6 mi @ 6:48 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 2/3/2010
  • Didn't wear too much this time around. I might say I didn't wear enough! By the time I got back my head was so cold I couldn't balance so well. Once I thawed out a bit my balance returned to normal. [6 mi @ 6:48 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 2/2/2010
  • When I checked last night weather.com said was going to be 24, with winds from WNW. Actual temp was 34, with winds from WSW. Over dressed yet again, and I'm hoping that is why my pace was as slowed down as it was. [8 mi @ 7:43 min/mi]
    8 mile run on 2/2/2010
  • I need to pay more attention to the weather, wore too many layers and was way to warm. [6 mi @ 7:22 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 2/1/2010
  • Overdressed for the run today, which is never fun. I guess its better to be too warm than too cold though. [6 mi @ 7:07 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 1/31/2010
  • Little wind, so the cold air wasn't so bad. My calf felt funny after yesterday's run so I shortened this one a bit. [12.1 mi @ 7:49 min/mi]
    12.1 mile run on 1/30/2010
  • Cold, windy, and snow. I wore my hind facemask, which restricted my breathing more than I thought it would. [6 mi @ 7:17 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 1/29/2010
  • Slowed down a bit today; lunch wasn't quite agreeing with me during the run. [10 mi @ 7:17 min/mi]
    10 mile run on 1/27/2010
  • Continuing with my fast pace at low effort level. I suppose this is a problem most runners would like to have. I'm just curious where the sudden speed came from. [8 mi @ 6:49 min/mi]
    8 mile run on 1/26/2010
  • Very strong winds; helped on the way out, but had to battle them on the way back. [8 mi @ 7:07 min/mi]
    8 mile run on 1/25/2010
  • Ran the first 10 miles in 1:08, but had to walk a little during the last four miles as I had no water and it was unseasonably warm. Also the longest distance I've run since before Christmas. [14 mi @ 7:11 min/mi]
    14 mile run on 1/23/2010
  • Wanted to see how fast I could go, so I didn't walk during this run. Interested to see what my pace will be on a longer run. [6 mi @ 6:38 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 1/22/2010
  • A short run before attending a funeral. [6 mi @ 7:09 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 1/21/2010
  • Almost talked myself out of running today, but then remembered the cherry cheese danish I had for breakfast. Started to rain during the last mile, which was weird to see with snow still on the ground. [8 mi @ 7:05 min/mi]
    8 mile run on 1/19/2010
  • Very foggy day. Saw a fox on the trail, but it moved away after I whistled and clapped for a bit. [8 mi @ 7:00 min/mi]
    8 mile run on 1/18/2010
  • More of the trail snow is melting, making for several standing water puddles. Surprised that my pace is staying so high, but it could be due to the several weeks of low miles. We'll see how the pace looks after I've done a few 50 - 60 mile weeks. [8 mi @ 7:11 min/mi]
    8 mile run on 1/17/2010
  • Got 50 miles this week, which hasn't happened in almost 5 weeks. Felt good, but looking forward to the rest of the ice/snow to melt away. [10.1 mi @ 7:14 min/mi]
    10.1 mile run on 1/16/2010
  • 8.5 miles outside. The path was cleared, which was a nice surprise. A couple of more days and all of the snow/ice should be gone. [8.5 mi @ 7:40 min/mi]
    8.5 mile run on 1/14/2010
  • On the treadmill, had intended more miles but ran out of time. [3 mi @ 7:18 min/mi]
    3 mile run on 1/13/2010
  • Treadmill during the morning, trying to get more miles in. [6 mi @ 8:05 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 1/13/2010
  • Another run in the snow. It is supposed to warm up tomorrow, so hopefully some of it will melt. It felt like I was going a lot faster, but with the feet slipping and all of that it seems I wasn't. Oh well. [6 mi @ 9:16 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 1/12/2010
  • Running outside for the first time in a week. Still a lot of snow, so I would say this was closer to an 8.5 mile effort, but at least I was outside. [7 mi @ 9:48 min/mi]
    7 mile run on 1/11/2010
  • Originally planned on running outside after it warmed up a little, but after looking at the forecast it didn't look like it would until too late in the day. 10 on the treadmill. [10 mi @ 7:31 min/mi]
    10 mile run on 1/10/2010
  • Treadmill. [4 mi @ 7:55 min/mi]
    4 mile run on 1/9/2010
  • Another day on the treadmill. Nothing exciting about that. [6 mi @ 7:40 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 1/8/2010
  • Another day on the treadmill and we got more snow. [6 mi @ 7:57 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 1/6/2010
  • Running on the treadmill requires a lot of mental resolve. Fortunately I was able to complete my miles today. Just looking forward to the snow melting. [8 mi @ 7:47 min/mi]
    8 mile run on 1/5/2010
  • Running on the treadmill because of snow. Suck. [3 mi @ 7:31 min/mi]
    3 mile run on 1/4/2010
  • Running on the treadmill. Might end up splitting miles between outside and on the treadmill to deal with the snow. [5 mi @ 7:24 min/mi]
    5 mile run on 1/3/2010
  • Found a bike lane on a road that was cleared, so I ran out and backs on that. Would have run more if I knew it was going to snow the next day... [6 mi @ 7:18 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 1/1/2010
  • Starting to get very tired of the snow. Doesn't look like it's going to let up anytime soon either. [6 mi @ 8:21 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 12/30/2009
  • Snow is still there, and annoying. [8 mi @ 8:32 min/mi]
    8 mile run on 12/28/2009

    14 mile run on 12/19/2009
  • Over-dressed on a morning run, which didn't help with the overall tiredness I felt. [6 mi @ 7:58 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 12/17/2009
  • Warmer day than we've had lately, which was nice. Tried making a loop, but it didn't work out and I ended up about a quarter mile short. Made up for it to get an even 10. [10 mi @ 7:20 min/mi]
    10 mile run on 12/16/2009
  • Very cold run after work. Took a loop that included a road that had been worked on over the summer. Very nice path. [8.2 mi @ 7:10 min/mi]
    8.2 mile run on 12/15/2009
  • Had the day off, so I ran in the morning. A strong cold front moved in while I was running, causing the trail to freeze over, making it an interesting run back. [12.1 mi @ 7:34 min/mi]

    8.1 mile run on 11/17/2009
  • Cold rainy near freezing day. [6.1 mi @ 7:05 min/mi]
    6.1 mile run on 11/16/2009
  • Started as any normal run, and then I GOT THIRD PLACE OVERALL! The race started downhill, so I didn't think much of my initial pace. The course leveled out and I was able to maintain, passing the few people between me and the number 1 and 2 runners. 1 and 2 finished about 10 minutes ahead of me, and number 4 finished about 20+ seconds behind me. I know it was a small race, but hey, a top three finish is still a top three finish. :) [13.1 mi @ 6:40 min/mi]
    13.1 mile run on 11/14/2009

    4 mile run on 10/19/2009
  • KC Marathon. Other than starting farther back than I wanted to in the chute this was an excellent race. Weather was chilly but nice. Overall I was 83 out of 1556. Age division place was 17 out of 140 (24-29). Very happy with the results today. Each past marathon I felt a moment of extreme tiredness (the wall) but today I'm not sure if I hit a wall, or if it was the hill I was climbing. It is rewarding when training pays off so well. Now for some rest. [26.2 mi @ 7:35 min/mi]

  • I didn't feel like I was going that fast, but the time doesn't lie. I'm upset that four days after failing a marathon I'm able to run this well. It shows me that my training was solid, and just a bad bunch of events happening on the same day can get in the way of a good race. [6.1 mi @ 7:17 min/mi]

    8.03 mile run on 8/10/2009
  • Wow. What a difference a week makes. After practically suffering from heat exhaustion on Saturday, running a hilly 5k on Sunday (in near 85 degree and humid weather) I get a nice 10.4 miler on a mostly cool/humid-free day. Lungs felt good, breathing felt good, and the only concern was a little side pain around mile 6 which I think may be leftovers from a difficult weekend, I think I'm good. The weather was so cool that after a shower I'm not even sweating! Awesome! [10.4 mi @ 7:33 min/mi]

    6 mile run on 8/6/2009
  • First run after a recent bout of bronchitis. Felt good during the run, but felt exhausted when I was finished. Plan on running tomorrow, probably another six, but I may try for 8. [6 mi @ 7:28 min/mi]

    10.3 mile run on 7/29/2009
  • Today called for a six mile run, but the weather was so nice I had to go a little farther. Nice day and almost no humidity. [8.1 mi @ 7:31 min/mi]
    8.1 mile run on 7/28/2009
  • Ran easy today. Ran too much last week to try and top it off with a 20m run. Going to run less this week, and finish with a 20m run. [6 mi @ 7:41 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 7/27/2009
  • Seemed to start off pretty well, but just ran out of juice about half-way through the run. Started off with what I thought was enough water, planning it to be raining and cool, but the rain never fell, and I got a medium temp day with a lot of humidity, which just never helps me. I'll go 20 again next weekend, except I'm going to have only a 50 mile week. That should allow me to have some reserves left in the tank. [20.25 mi @ 9:27 min/mi]
    20.25 mile run on 7/25/2009
  • Second run of the day, again trying to regain that slower pace so the muscles can relax a little. [4 mi @ 7:53 min/mi]
    4 mile run on 7/24/2009
  • The slower pace made this run feel nice and rewarding. With the nice weather I had been running too fast, and this was a good way to close out the week. [8 mi @ 8:01 min/mi]
    8 mile run on 7/23/2009
  • My legs were VERY sore today, but for some reason I still tried to go way to fast. Walked a little during the fourth mile, then ran a slightly slower pace, which actually helped quite a bit. Need to remember that I don't need to run fast all the time. Probably giong to take it easy tomorrow with a slower pace. [6 mi @ 7:46 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 7/22/2009
  • Cool weather day again, and went faster than I would have liked. [6 mi @ 7:22 min/mi]

  • Cool weather coupled with a light ran made this run comfortable. [8 mi @ 7:26 min/mi]
    8 mile run on 7/20/2009
  • For some reason the GPS wasn't being accurate today, but I still managed a fast workout without too much effort. The summer temp is always an exhaustive mind exercise. I can never tell if I'm doing well, and I often think that I'm getting slower as the months wear on, but when the temp and humidity lets up its easy to tell that it is all worth it. [6 mi @ 7:07 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 7/19/2009
  • Split this up into three segments, 6-mile, 6-mile, 4-mile. Had to keep returning home to check the pager for work. The risky thing of splitting up a long run like this is that I might decide not to keep going and just stop. Fortunately I didn't feel like stopping today, so it worked out well. Took the girls on the final four miles, and they seemed to enjoy it. [16.1 mi @ 7:43 min/mi]
    16.1 mile run on 7/18/2009
  • Cooler today than usual, which felt nice. [4 mi @ 7:24 min/mi]
    4 mile run on 7/16/2009
  • Slept in and got out the door about 45 minutes later than I had planned, which meant no time for cool-down after the run. Wore the pattelar knee strap today just in case, and had a decent run. Felt tired towards the end, but I've been feeling that way lately anyways. [6 mi @ 7:33 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 7/16/2009
  • Ran without my patellar tendon strap today for the first time since Feb. Felt good, had a little bit of a twinge after mile 5. [6 mi @ 7:56 min/mi]

  • Very insanely hot today. Enough said. [6 mi @ 9:00 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 7/14/2009
  • Got caught in the middle of a thunder/lightning storm this morning which isn't as much fun as it sounds. The raccoons thought it was raining hard enough for it to be safe and come out and play, but I interrupted their games so they scattered back into the bushes. After that a car drove by and splashed a wave of water onto me, not that it mattered, I was already soaked, just seemed funny at the time. [8 mi @ 7:44 min/mi]
    8 mile run on 7/14/2009
  • Felt a little jittery during the first three miles, so I walked for about a quarter mile, then resumed running and felt better. [6 mi @ 8:02 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 7/13/2009
  • Ran the first four miles under 30 minutes, then took it easy on the way back. [8 mi @ 8:31 min/mi]
    8 mile run on 7/12/2009
  • Hard to explain this run. I was testing the Vespa Jr. and nuun hydration tablets. My body wasn't tired, but my mind wasn't prepared for the run. I could tell that the vespa was working, and by all accounts the nuun stuff seemed to be doing a good job. Probably setup the next weeks mileage so Friday has no miles, which might help the overall sense of tiredness. [7.63 mi @ 8:05 min/mi]
    7.6 mile run on 7/11/2009
  • Midday run before it got too hot. [4 mi @ 7:40 min/mi]
    4 mile run on 7/10/2009
  • Afternoon run. [4 mi @ 8:23 min/mi]
    4 mile run on 7/9/2009
  • I think I was still a little tired from yesterday's heat session, along with Tuesday's 14 mile day. The humidity didn't help as I was struggling for breath. In the end it wasn't a horrible time, but I was hoping to be at most at 1:20. In comparison I remember an 8 miler recently that I was 3 minutes slower during a morning run, so maybe this isn't so bad. [10 mi @ 8:31 min/mi]
    10 mile run on 7/9/2009
  • Hotter than it has been lately, and I wasn't ready for it. Goal for today was to keep it easy and get the miles in. Mission accomplished. [6 mi @ 8:28 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 7/8/2009
  • Total of 14 miles today. Walked for a little bit during the later part of the run. [6 mi @ 8:47 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 7/7/2009
  • Back to the grind. Nothing spectacular on today's run, but I think I might be coming down with something as my chest felt a little tight while breathing. I eased off the pace a bit which seemed to help. Hopefully that clears up before becoming anything major. [8 mi @ 7:40 min/mi]
    8 mile run on 7/7/2009
  • Took two days off, mainly because we played a lot of backyard vollyball and my entire body is sore from the effort. [6 mi @ 7:39 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 7/6/2009
  • Started the run with a rainbow, followed by some lightening and a steady rain. This makes 60 miles of running this week, and it feels good to be back here. [16.5 mi @ 8:15 min/mi]
    16.5 mile run on 7/3/2009
  • I felt like I had taken a day off of running, and I guess it had been more than 36 hours between runs... Felt good. [6 mi @ 7:36 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 7/2/2009
  • Into the easy stretch of the week, with two consecutive days of only running once, at six miles each day. Felt good, but I need to stretch tonight to work out some kinks left over from yesterday. [6 mi @ 7:35 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 7/1/2009
  • Finally a morning run where the temp and humidity wasn't absolutely crazy. A slight breeze made everything feel better. 3 days of running 8 miles (at least) is catching up with me though, plan to take it easier over the next couple of days. [8 mi @ 7:38 min/mi]
    8 mile run on 6/30/2009
  • An interesting run where most of my mouth was numb after a visit to the Dentist. I couldn't drink my water very well, as I couldn't tell if the spray bottle was doing anything. stopped to walk a bit as I sipped my water at the turnaround point. [4 mi @ 8:05 min/mi]
    4 mile run on 6/30/2009
  • My legs were still tired from yeseterday's miles, but with the weather being so nice I didn't want to cut the run short. [8 mi @ 7:55 min/mi]

  • Very nice day today, the temp finally broke along with the humidity. [8 mi @ 7:37 min/mi]
    8 mile run on 6/28/2009
  • This was on my day off, in the morning and HOT, so I took it easy. [6 mi @ 8:54 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 6/26/2009
  • I wonder how hard it is to obey traffic laws, because I can almost guarantee that people will ignore them early in the morning. I had to yell at a driver this morning as I ran in the cross-walk through a 4-way stop intersection while the driver was going to blow through the intersection barely slowing down at all. My exact words were "Stop sign! Stop Sign! Can you read!?! Stop Sign!" all the while pointing at the, you guessed it, stop sign. A few miles later I almost got clipped again as a car [8 mi @ 7:38 min/mi]
    8 mile run on 6/25/2009
  • Ah, relief. The heat let up during the last three miles as a thunderstorm prepared to roll in. I finished the run about five minutes prior to the rain falling. I hope its just as cool tomorrow morning. [6 mi @ 7:59 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 6/24/2009
  • Another hot day, but I'm liking the shorter 4 mile runs in the afternoon. [4.1 mi @ 8:10 min/mi]
    4.1 mile run on 6/23/2009
  • It's strange for it to be so hot in the morning, but it was no where near as uncomfortable as it was yesterday. Managed to pull off a pretty good pace considering I walked for about two tenths of a mile during the sixth mile. [8 mi @ 8:03 min/mi]
    8 mile run on 6/23/2009
  • Hot hot hot day. 107 Heat Index. Running a short distance since I had my long run yesterday. Since it was so hot, there wasn't as much humidity, so I could breath which is always nice. [4.2 mi @ 8:09 min/mi]
    4.2 mile run on 6/22/2009
  • Walked up the big hills today for a relaxed 16.5 miles. [16.5 mi @ 8:29 min/mi]
    16.5 mile run on 6/21/2009
  • A better day for running. It was still hot, but not so humid that I couldn't breath. Amazing how that works. [6 mi @ 7:44 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 6/19/2009
  • Hot and humid. But at least its only four miles (thanks to this morning's run...) [4 mi @ 8:27 min/mi]
    4 mile run on 6/18/2009
  • As humid as it was yesterday, only no sun to finish me off with a one-two punch. My pace was slower than it has been all year, and I walked a little just before the five mile mark, but all in all one of the better runs of the week. I just want this humidity to break a little. [8 mi @ 8:23 min/mi]
    8 mile run on 6/18/2009
  • Even hotter still, with the same level of humidity. Looking forward to tomorrow's morning run, in the hopse that it will at least be cooler. [6 mi @ 9:02 min/mi]

    10 mile run on 6/15/2009

    8 mile run on 6/11/2009
  • I really did not want to run again today, but I did. I will be taking tomorrow off though, as I feel a bit of a running burnout coming on. Eight straight days of running is a lot for me, with a fast race in the middle of it to boot. [4 mi @ 7:24 min/mi]

    6 mile run on 6/7/2009
  • This was the Hospital Hill marathon. Based on my current training and effort levels, I can't say that I would have expected a better race. I'm very pleased with my time, and didn't really feel tired until there was a half-mile left, but that was on the final hill. [13.1 mi @ 7:25 min/mi]

    8 mile run on 6/2/2009
  • While the pace was easy, I was still a little tired after yesterday's run. Probably not the best idea to run in the hottest time of day either. [8 mi @ 8:00 min/mi]

    6 mile run on 5/27/2009

    6.75 mile run on 5/24/2009

    12 mile run on 5/21/2009

    7 mile run on 5/18/2009
  • I remember now why I used to wake up extra early for my Saturday long runs... Too many cars on the road after 7AM, makes crossing busy intersections difficult. Very windy for the first 5 miles, but the temperature was a cool upper 50s. [16.1 mi @ 7:33 min/mi]
    16.1 mile run on 5/16/2009
  • I need to get ready a lot faster in the morning, or I need to wake up early. After this run I didn't have a lot of time to get ready before needing to leave for work. Strong wind on the way out made it tough for the first half, but nice coming back. [8 mi @ 7:31 min/mi]
    8 mile run on 5/14/2009
  • Nice when the humidity turns into a downpour. After the rain stopped the path was steaming, which was neat to see. [8.1 mi @ 7:34 min/mi]
    8.1 mile run on 5/13/2009

    6 mile run on 5/11/2009
  • Felt tired around 9 miles, then took a S!Cap and felt surprisingly better. Usually I mix them in with my water, but taking the pill form seemed to create better, quicker results. [12 mi @ 7:34 min/mi]
    12 mile run on 5/9/2009
  • Tired from this morning's run. Warm and humid. [6 mi @ 7:32 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 5/7/2009
  • Morning run, with some rain towards the end. Almost didn't wake up, until I remembered why the alarm was going off so early! Ran the sidewalks next to the roads which offered a hillier route than I usually run. [6 mi @ 7:33 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 5/7/2009
  • Warmer and slightly humid, reminding me of what the weather will soon become. [6 mi @ 7:25 min/mi]

    6 mile run on 5/4/2009
  • I'm surprised at how tired I was during this run. I've run 10 miles several times in the last few weeks without any issue, but today I was just tired. That being said, I got through it. [14 mi @ 8:26 min/mi]
    14 mile run on 5/3/2009
  • It started to rain around mile 3, and kept going until mile 8. I was soaked! It did make for a fun run though. This was my sixth day running in a row, so Friday will be a much needed rest day for me. [10.1 mi @ 7:41 min/mi]
    10.1 mile run on 4/30/2009
  • I didn't feel as jittery as yesterday, which is good. Had to navigate a few flooded areas as we received a couple of inches of rain today, and it was continuing to sprinkle throughout the run. [6.1 mi @ 7:32 min/mi]
    6.1 mile run on 4/29/2009
  • A warmer day today, my legs felt really tired and sluggish, until I realized what my pace was. I had a 1 hour PT session before this run, so that probably threw my legs off a little, explaining the strange feeling. I stretched in the middle, and that made the way back feel better, and more relaxed. [6.1 mi @ 7:13 min/mi]
    6.1 mile run on 4/28/2009
  • Low 50s, rainy, and cold. Part of the trail was flooded so I ran 3 miles on the sidewalk near the road. Felt good considering I went all out yesterday. [10.2 mi @ 7:37 min/mi]
    10.2 mile run on 4/27/2009

  • Cloudy and humid, but still a good run. [8 mi @ 7:44 min/mi]
    8 mile run on 4/25/2009
  • Hotter day still. This was my second four-days-in-a-row, and I book-ended it with 10 mile runs. I stopped and walked on a couple of up hills to compensate for the heat. Still managed a decent time. [10.1 mi @ 7:49 min/mi]
    10.1 mile run on 4/23/2009

  • Felt good, so I tacked on a couple extra miles. [10.2 mi @ 7:25 min/mi]
    10.2 on 4/20/2009
  • A nice calm rainy day. This also marks the first time since my knee injury that I've run four days in a row. I'll be running doubles in no time! A lady was driving her RAV-4 on the bike trail today... I told her how she could get out to the main road. From what she said, she had been on the trail for at least a mile, and had to go up a pretty steep and curvy hill! [6 mi @ 7:34 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 4/18/2009
  • Cloudy day, but nice temp and weather otherwise. [6 mi @ 7:24 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 4/17/2009

    10.1 mile run on 4/15/2009
  • Running on the treadmill at the gym in the Hotel. [6 mi @ 7:51 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 4/13/2009
  • A combination of hiking and running in Red Rock canyon. I didn't look at the elevation change, but I know it was at least 1000 feet up, which is a big change for this Kansas boy. [5.6 mi @ 26:31 min/mi]
5.6 mile hike in Red Rock Canyon on 4/12/2009
  • Only had time for a short six mile run this morning as we prepare for Las Vegas! Tomorrow I will be running in Red Rock Canyon! [6 mi @ 7:39 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 4/11/2009
  • The cold winds finished around noon, and this turned out to be a good day for a run. [8 mi @ 7:35 min/mi]
    8 mile run on 4/10/2009
  • Cold and windy, and several days of running ahead of me caused me to stop after a short mile run. This was enough to get my legs warmed up for some stretching. [1.05 mi @ 7:35 min/mi]
    1 mile run on 4/9/2009
  • I think my Garmin is about to be replaced. Sometimes it decides that it won't power on, even if I leave it plugged in over night. This was a decent run, at a pace between 7:45 and 8:00. [6 mi @ 7:45 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 4/9/2009
  • I'm finding that slowing down my pace has allowed me to run without pain. I'll start building up the mileage base. [8 mi @ 7:58 min/mi]
    8 mile run on 4/7/2009
  • Ran a slower maintained pace with minimal pain to the knee. [10.2 mi @ 8:03 min/mi]
    10.2 mile run on 4/4/2009
  • Felt fine for the first three miles, turned around, and about .1 miles later my knee was in a lot of pain. I need to be careful about my form once the knee starts hurting, because by the time I got home a lot of other muscles and tendons were hurting due to my affected form... [6 mi @ 7:49 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 4/2/2009
  • My garmin doesn't seem to work too well when I visit Richardson, TX... I think it may have something to do with the hotel I stay at, as it is a tall building. That being said, I went out faster than I had meant to, and was hurting on the way back. [6 mi @ 7:30 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 4/1/2009
  • 3 mile walk, since yesterday's run in the snow kind of aggravated my knee. [3 mi @ 17:19 min/mi]
    3 mile walk on 3/30/2009
  • Snow canceled the marathon yesterday, as the prediction was 5 inches in four hours. Unfortunately the snow didn't fall until mid afternoon, so the race would have been possible. Marathon will not be rescheduled this year, but I may run the rescheduled half-marathon next weekend. I'm reminded that snow running is harder than running without snow. I will take the credit for being one of the first people out in the local area though, as I laid the first set of tracks. [6 mi @ 8:38 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 3/29/2009
  • A five miler, last run before the marathon. [5 mi @ 7:46 min/mi]
    5 mile run on 3/25/2009
  • A shorter distance day, to keep the legs going and to keep enough energy for a run tomorrow. [4 mi @ 7:30 min/mi]
    4 mile run on 3/24/2009
  • Another slower paced run, this time it didn't feel so strange. Very windy though! [6.1 mi @ 7:45 min/mi]
    6.1 mile run on 3/23/2009
  • Ran a slower pace to better simulate next weekend. Minimal pain in the knee, but I could tell that was only due to the slower pace. [12 mi @ 8:28 min/mi]
    12 mile run on 3/21/2009
  • Felt good until a little over 9 miles in, then a sharp pain on the outside of my knee. Slowed down a bit and the pain was minimal after that point. Other than that, a good day! [10.1 mi @ 7:31 min/mi]
    10.1 mile run on 3/19/2009
  • I feel like the stretching is having a positive effect on my stride. My quads feel like they are being used more now, if that makes any sense. [6.1 mi @ 7:24 min/mi]
    6.1 mile run on 3/18/2009
  • My knee hurt from the beginning, but I continued on. I tried slowing down a bit, but found that hard to do. Even with shorter strides, it's like the turnover is faster. Feeling pretty confident with yesterday's and today's workout. [6 mi @ 7:35 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 3/16/2009
  • Went for my long run, escorted by my wife on a bike! It was nice to have someone with me on the run. My knee started hurting around 13 miles, and had to slow down a lot to compensate. [16 mi @ 8:22 min/mi]
    16 mile run on 3/15/2009
  • A quick run, thanks to the DST change. Legs are still really tight. [6 mi @ 7:18 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 3/13/2009
  • Felt good today, with little to no pain until mile 7, but even then not that bad. I'm enjoying these longer days, and it seems my new stretching regime is starting to work... [10 mi @ 7:35 min/mi]
    10 mile run on 3/12/2009
  • Ran farther since the knee pain started. Felt tolerable. We had a lot of rain last night, which caused a lot of mud from the creek to cover the bike path. Those parts were slippery. [8 mi @ 7:58 min/mi]
    8 mile run on 3/10/2009
  • Ran without the tendon strap for the first two miles, then put it back on. Felt ok. [6 mi @ 7:34 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 3/9/2009
  • The positive thing is that I was able to run two days in a row. The bad thing is that I was very tired while running, and the knee is still hurting. [6 mi @ 8:45 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 3/7/2009
  • The second run with the patella tendon band, and this time I didn't have to stop mid run to stretch. Going to try and run again tomorrow, with a slight increase in mileage. [6 mi @ 7:31 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 3/6/2009
  • The diagnosis is that I have patellar tendonitis, caused by overuse. Basically, I'm not flexible at all, and I haven't strengthened my knee enough to take the workload... Need to schedule some time with a Physical Therapist and get working on fixing that problem. For now, I have a band that sits below my knee cap and keeps constant pressure on that tendon. It worked for the most part, though it's not entirely pain free. [6 mi @ 7:42 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 3/4/2009
  • Had to stop a few times to stretch my knee, and ran at a slower pace. Going to try and run tomorrow in the morning, and again at night... Hopefully that will work out. Two more days until my doctor's appointment! [6 mi @ 8:41 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 3/2/2009
  • On the treadmill with minimal pain until the 3.5 mile mark. I had planned on 4, so I continued to my goal. [4 mi @ 8:37 min/mi]
    4 mile run on 2/28/2009
  • I thought my knee was feeling better, but as soon as I started running it became tight and started hurting. I slowed down, attempted to change stride, but with each step the pain became more and more intense. I have an appointment with an Orthopedic doctor on 3/4, so hopefully we can figure something out by then. Until then, I'll be focusing on core strength, and trying to go out as often as I can. This is not what I wanted to happen five weeks out from the marathon... [.25 mi @ 9:00 min/mi]
    .25 mile run on 2/26/2009
  • Felt good until 3.5 miles in, then my right knee started hurting. I stretched a little, and slowed down the pace. Everything was going fine until the 8th mile, when I noticed that I was limping pretty badly and had slowed down a lot more. Needless to say, I think I need rest, and ice. [10.05 mi @ 7:53 min/mi]
    10.05 mile run on 2/24/2009
  • Mid 40s with a good amount of wind. Right knee still feels a little tight when pushed too hard. [8 mi @ 7:19 min/mi]
    8 mile run on 2/23/2009
  • Ran with my friend from High School again on this 10 mile loop. Weather was just right for ideal running, as can be seen by the pace. [10.34 mi @ 7:28 min/mi]
    10.34 mile run on 2/22/2009
  • I was tired for most of this run, choosing to walk up any hills. I'm hoping that was because of the fast pace 10 miler yesterday and the fact I hadn't eaten anything prior to this run. [16 mi @ 8:32 min/mi]
    16 mile run on 2/20/2009
  • Yesterday's day off was well timed. No pain in the knee today, which is good. I'll continue to keep an eye on it and make sure not to push too hard. [10.1 mi @ 7:24 min/mi]
    10.1 mile run on 2/19/2009
  • The right knee felt bad at the beginning, but after running for a little bit more it started feeling better. Still aches a little, but I think it will be manageable. Just need to be careful. [6.5 mi @ 7:30 min/mi]
    6.5 mile run on 2/17/2009
  • Felt good until the last mile, when I noticed my knees felt funny. Afterwards my right knee hurt pretty bad whenever I used it. I will keep an eye on it, and take it easy over the next couple of days. Certainly need to slow down a bit, and see if that helps. [6 mi @ 7:15 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 2/16/2009
  • Ran with a friend from High School who was in town for the weekend. It was good to run with someone, especially on a longer run. [12 mi @ 7:29 min/mi]

  • Felt very tired for the first 4 miles, then finished feeling Ok. [6 mi @ 7:24 min/mi]
Evening 6 mile run on 2/12/2009
  • Really didn't want to wake up this morning for the run, but am glad that I did. Very little wind, which made the lower temperature semi-comfortable. [6 mi @ 7:38 min/mi]
Morning 6 mile run on 2/12/2009
  • A little cooler, but virtually no wind. A shame everyone else was inside. I ran through the creek, like a boss.* *'like a boss' refers to a track on the "Incredibad" CD from The Lonely Island, the comedy troupe that Andy Samburg is in. Funny song. [10.15 mi @ 7:19 min/mi]
    10.15 mile run on 2/11/2009
  • The warmest day yet, with relatively calm winds. Still trying to slow down a bit. [6 mi @ 7:18 min/mi]
Evening 6 mile run on 2/10/2009
  • Really enjoying this warmer weather. It will be a shame to see it go at the end of the week. Easy effort for this morning run. [6 mi @ 7:35 min/mi]
Morning 6 mile run on 2/10/2009
  • I need to start getting serious about my marathon training again. Probably do less speedwork and continue adding miles. [6 mi @ 7:19 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 2/9/2009
  • I just felt tired today, and had to call for help after realizing I didn't have the will to finish the planned 16 miles. Note to self: Don't run a hard workout the day before your planned long run. [12.3 mi @ 8:10 min/mi]
    12.3 mile run on 2/7/2009
  • A windy day. I guess that is the price you pay when it is as warm as it is in February. [4 mi @ 6:58 min/mi]
Evening 4 mile run on 2/6/2009
  • A nice warm morning in the upper 30's, lower 40's. I should have worn gloves though, my hands were freezing when I finished. [6 mi @ 7:31 min/mi]
Morning 6 mile run on 2/6/2009
  • An unseasonably warm day brought a lot of people out of hiding and onto the bike path. It's good to see people continuing to exercise, even if they only do so when the weather is nice. 8 mile run at a comfortable pace until the 6 mile mark, when I started to get a little tired. Other than that I felt good. [8 mi @ 7:06 min/mi]
    8 mile run on 2/5/2009
  • Took yesterday off because of single digit wind chills. Today felt nice in the mid to low 20s. [10.2 mi @ 7:14 min/mi]
    10.2 mile run on 2/4/2009
  • I had to push hard to get this one. The only bad part of this run came right at the beginning when I was passed while running a 7:00 minute/mile pace. Who does that? I attempted striking up a conversation but the runner wasn't interested in talking. [8 mi @ 7:11 min/mi]
    8 mile run on 2/2/2009
  • Felt tight after the quick long run on Saturday. Wanted to go a little longer, but had to cut the run short so I could get to the movies in time to see 'Taken'. [6 mi @ 7:24 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 2/1/2009
  • Apart from almost being run over at the 14 mile mark this run was pretty standard. Colder than I thought it was going to be. I need to continue working on my endurance as well. I got pretty tired around mile 17 but was able to maintain a decent pace. A personal note to the lady who almost hit me with her white truck. A stop sign is posted for a reason, not as a suggestion. I apologize for assuming you were aware of this. [20.25 mi @ 7:50 min/mi]
    20.25 mile run on 1/31/2009
  • Warm enough so I didn't have to wear tights. [6 mi @ 7:03 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 1/29/2009
  • Warmer today, but with the wind blowing from the south. Felt relaxed. [10.2 mi @ 7:17 min/mi]
    10.2 mile run on 1/28/2009
  • Similar weather to yesterday plus light snow/freezing rain. Had to be a little careful on the street crossings, but the snow on the sidewalk helped with the traction. [8 mi @ 7:41 min/mi]
    8 mile run on 1/27/2009
  • Very cold headwind for the first four miles. As I finished the first six miles I picked up the pace significantly in order to finish under an hour. Felt good to stride out. [8 mi @ 7:19 min/mi]
    8 mile run on 1/26/2009
  • I broke this run into three legs, returning home after each leg so I wouldn't have to carry my water (and have it freeze) and check the pager (since I'm on call.) Leg 1 - 6 miles: 46:50 Leg 2 - 6 miles: 46:50 Leg 3 - 5 miles: 38:40 The funny thing about those times was I wasn't paying that close of attention to them, and I'm shocked that the first two legs took exactly the same amount of time. Kind of neat. [17 mi @ 7:47 min/mi]
    17 mile run on 1/24/2009
  • A nice warm day in the upper 50s. [6 mi @ 7:30 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 1/22/2009
  • Fastest 8 miles yet. Felt good throughout the run. The temperature dropped faster than I thought it would, so I was pretty cold by the end. [8 mi @ 7:23 min/mi]
Evening 8 mile run on 1/21/2009
  • I really didn't want to wake up this morning and almost slept in. So there should be no surprise that I felt tired during this run. [6 mi @ 7:55 min/mi]
Morning 6 mile run on 1/21/2009
  • I am looking forward to the ice melting off of my usual bike trail. I am not doing well running on sidewalks as cars will usually stop when they don't need to, and fail to stop when it is clearly posted that they should (i.e. four way stops.) It's just easier when you don't have to deal with drivers. [6.1 mi @ 7:19 min/mi]
    6.1 mile run on 1/20/2009
  • Cold wind on the way out, but a nice calm run on the way back. [8 mi @ 7:43 min/mi]
    8 mile run on 1/19/2009
  • This is the farthest I've run since my November marathon. My legs haven't felt this way in a long time, but it's a good kind of pain. Ran the first part on a sloshy snow covered bike trail, then hit the sidewalks on the way back as the trail was starting to freeze over. [16.25 mi @ 7:57 min/mi]
    16.25 mile run on 1/17/2009
  • Running in the snow is like running in sand. I felt like I was going at a decent clip, only to see I was barely making an 8:00 min/mile. I'll be happy when it's gone. [6 mi @ 8:05 min/mi]
Evening 6 mile run on 1/16/2009
  • A lyric from PATD "Do You Know What I'm Seeing?" 'I know it's sad that I never gave a damn about the weather, and it never gave a damn about me.' I certainly felt that way this morning during my run as the weather pelted me with snow. This was the first time I have been running this year while it was snowing, and I failed to remember the pain when a snowflake hits you in the eye. I had plenty of reminders today though. Other than the snow and bitter cold, not much to say. [6 mi @ 8:03 min/mi]
Morning 6 mile run on 1/16/2009
  • Very cold run. I wore the maximum number of layers that I could wear, so it wasn't too bad. Running into the wind though seemed to negate all of the layers. [8.1 mi @ 7:54 min/mi]
    8.1 mile run on 1/14/2009
  • Decent run in very cold winds. Nothing compared to what is coming in the next couple of days though. [6 mi @ 7:27 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 1/13/2009
  • I don't like running when it is really windy, and I call 30MPH winds a really windy day. Almost talked myself into just running six, but was sane enough to finish the planned distance. [8.6 mi @ 7:57 min/mi]
    8.6 mile run on 1/12/2009
  • I waited until later in the day to avoid strong winds with the cold air. That strategy worked until the last couple of miles. [12 mi @ 7:42 min/mi]
    12 mile run on 1/10/2009
  • First time in a while that I was able to run in daylight. It's nice to be able to see everything around you. [6 mi @ 7:32 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 1/9/2009
  • Started to feel the tiredness that I expected to come last night. My legs were sore most of the day after the morning run, and only seemed to enjoy the middle miles of this run, not wanting to warm up, and at the end not wanting to keep the pace that was previously established. Tomorrow's easy day will be welcome. [4 mi @ 7:18 min/mi]
Evening 4 mile run on 1/8/2009
  • I was going to write about how the first four miles was spent running into a very cold head-wind, but the more interesting part was when I slipped and fell on a patch of ice (the only patch I found over the entire 8 mile course.) Fortunately nothing horrible happened, but I am reminded to be a little more careful. [8 mi @ 7:43 min/mi]
Morning 8 mile run on 1/8/2009
  • I think that my calf injury from August has finally healed all of the way, which explains the increase in speed. That, along with the combination of basically taking it easy for a month could also explain it. Tonight felt really good. Hopefully I don't tire out by the end of the week. [10.5 mi @ 7:28 min/mi]
    10.5 mile run on 1/7/2009
  • Listened to Panic at the Disco as I ran tonight. The upbeat tempo helped out. I didn't feel too tired from this morning, but I was yawning all day. [6 mi @ 7:20 min/mi]
Evening 6 mile run on 1/6/2009
  • A morning run. The weather was about the same as it was last night, so there were no surprises there. I'm always surprised at the effort to maintain a decent pace in the morning, compared to running in the evening. I'm sure it has something to do with not being fully awake or having warmed up the muscles. [6 mi @ 7:46 min/mi]
Morning 6 mile run on 1/6/2009
  • Probably a little too cold to not be wearing tights, but I didn't feel any pain until my legs thawed out. Fun times. [8 mi @ 7:30 min/mi]
    8 mile run on 1/5/2009
  • I slowed down a bit today, adjusting for the humidity. I'm still not mentally prepared to have my long run on Saturdays yet. I didn't think that adjusting my long run day for my last marathon would be so hard to change back. Still slowly building up to my previous weekly mileage in an attempt to not hurt myself, and so far it's working. [6 mi @ 7:45 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 1/3/2009
  • The days are starting to get a little longer, if only by a few minutes. I like this weather, with it being cold, but not too cold. I wonder how long it will last. [6 mi @ 7:13 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 1/2/2009
  • It's good to see all of the people out running today. I think it has something to do with resolutions. Whatever the reason, good for them. [6 mi @ 7:21 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 1/1/2009
  • A 1 mile fun run with my friends to mark the New Year. [1 mi @ 12:00 min/mi]
1 mile fun run on 1/1/2009
  • I was feeling tired on this run, but it seems my pace had something to do with that. [6 mi @ 7:20 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 12/30/2008
  • Second run for the day, this time warm enough for just shorts and a shirt. [6 mi @ 7:23 min/mi]
Evening 6 mile run on 12/29/2008
  • A warm December morning. Had to run on the sidewalks as the bike path most likely had ice on it. [8 mi @ 7:38 min/mi]
    8 mile run on 12/29/2008
  • I should remember to not listen to smodcast while I'm running. Laughing really affects the breathing in a bad way, but man, is it funny. [12 mi @ 8:19 min/mi]
    12 mile run on 12/28/2008
  • A warm day with high humidity. This nice weather is showing me what I was afraid of; my fitness level has definitely gone down since November. Hopefully I caught it before it went too far down and it won't take too much time to get back where I was during the fall months. [8 mi @ 7:51 min/mi]
    8 mile run on 12/26/2008
  • A nice run at my parent's house on Christmas morning. [6.1 mi @ 8:02 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 12/25/2008
  • Very cold today, but I hardly noticed with all of my protective gear on. When I got back my eyelashes were covered in ice, and a few times when I blinked they tried to freeze shut. [8 mi @ 8:11 min/mi]
    8 mile run on 12/24/2008
  • Warmer today, and icy. I liked running outside again. [6 mi @ 8:15 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 12/23/2008
  • This is my last day on a treadmill. I have the hardest time pushing through the monotony of treadmill runs that a six mile run (after 8 yesterday) was almost too much. When I run outside I almost always to an out and back, or a long loop. I can always finish the first half without any issues, and then I have no other option but to finish the last half. I don't have that on a treadmill, as I can step off at any point of the run and be home and finished. I found my "cold gear" last night, inc [6 mi @ 8:25 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 12/22/2008
  • 15 below for the wind chill. I ran on the treadmill today. But to be fair, I did have it at a 1 degree incline. [8 mi @ 8:08 min/mi]
    8 mile run on 12/21/2008
  • I thought all of the snow/ice had melted away, but I was wrong. Almost fell a couple of times, and ended up running on the grass next to the path. [6 mi @ 8:07 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 12/19/2008
  • A warm run in the low 30's with freezing rain and strong winds. Awesome. [9.15 mi @ 8:26 min/mi]
    9.1 mile run on 12/18/2008
  • COOOLD! Very cold, with 4 inches of snow to plod through. I should have worn something to cover my face. Oh well. [6 mi @ 8:36 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 12/17/2008
  • Temp was in the upper 50s, so today I dressed the part. Shorts and a shirt. It was very windy (20 - 30 mph constant) which made it feel like it was sucking the energy out of me on my way back. The easy week post-marathon, followed by the week of being sick and not running is starting to show the effects. I was very tired throughout the entire run, but I managed to hold a decent pace. Hopefully by not backing off I can regain some normality in a few weeks. [10 mi @ 8:00 min/mi]
    10 mile run on 12/14/2008
  • Wow, a lot warmer than I thought it was going to be. I was dressed for 20 degrees and windy, and while it was windy the temperature was in the 40s! Kind of disappointing mileage for the week overall, but definitely an improvement over last weeks 4 miles. I've got some time off from work coming up, which I'll use to get used to waking up early for those cold winter morning runs. [10 mi @ 8:26 min/mi]
    10 mile run on 12/13/2008
  • The path I usually run on was iced over after another day of melting, so I ran on the sidewalks instead. It's funny how the same distance can feel longer just by changing the scenery. [6 mi @ 7:30 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 12/11/2008
  • The snow from last night melted just enough to refreeze into a smooth sheet of ice. Fortunately the path I was on still had a little bit of snow on it that I could run on safely. [6 mi @ 7:44 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 12/10/2008
  • A snowy day. And windy. Seems I chose the wrong week to get sick and not run. Weather was great last week! oh well. [6 mi @ 7:58 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 12/9/2008
  • Coldest weather that I've run in all year. Felt good. [8 mi @ 7:32 min/mi]
    8 mile run on 12/7/2008
  • Where have I been? SICK! I'm currently without a voice, but my doctor said if I felt good enough to run then I should. During this long absence, I realized something. I REALLY like to run. There are other things I like to do as hobbies, such as playing video games, watching tv, and eating. However without running all of the previously mentioned activities add up to my former self, an over-weight, out of shape person. I won't be hitting my 50+ miles per week for the next couple of weeks, but [4 mi @ 7:28 min/mi]
    4 mile run on 12/5/2008
  • A post thanksgiving day run. I feel a little slower, but my time shows thats not the case. [6 mi @ 7:30 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 11/28/2008
  • A short run to loosen the legs up. [4 mi @ 7:39 min/mi]
    4 mile run on 11/25/2008
  • Beat my goal of 4 hours! :) I would have had a better time if I didn't stop for a bathroom break at mile 10. I had too much water pre-race that caught up to me. I stopped my watch during that time and finished with a 3:47, but I'm happy with the official time. Now it's time for rest and building back up to a steady flow of weekly miles. [26.2 mi @ 8:53 min/mi]
    Gobbler Grind Marathon on 11/23/2008
  • Last run before marathon day. Weather seems nice, but very windy. [3 mi @ 8:20 min/mi]
    3 mile run on 11/22/2008
  • Seem to be going faster, though the effort level doesn't seem to be increased. I'll be sure to go slower the next couple of days so I don't tire myself out before Sunday's race. [6 mi @ 7:29 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 11/19/2008
  • Felt light headed on the way out, but things cleared up in the final miles. [6 mi @ 7:34 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 11/18/2008
  • Started out in the upper 20s but warmed up to the low 40s by the time I finished. I was definitely overdressed for this run. [16 mi @ 8:26 min/mi]
    16 mile run on 11/16/2008
  • First snow of the year and I was running in it. Nothing stuck to the ground, but it was interesting to see. [10 mi @ 7:56 min/mi]
    10 mile run on 11/15/2008
  • Had to talk to a guy shooting arrows off of his deck in the direction of the path I was running on. He claimed he was being "very safe" but I still don't see how shooting arrows in the dark can be mistaken as safe. [6 mi @ 7:30 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 11/13/2008
  • The moon was very bright tonight, so much so that shadows were being cast. I saw one person tonight, but they were walking and smoking, so I'm not sure what exercise routine they were following... [6 mi @ 7:28 min/mi]
Evening 6 mile run on 11/12/2008
  • Warmer morning than I thought it was going to be. Felt a little over-dressed. [6 mi @ 7:55 min/mi]
Morning 6 mile run on 11/12/2008
  • Run in the dark, cold, rainy night. No one else on the asphalt trail, even though two weeks ago I would typically see 20 - 30 people throughout the run. [6 mi @ 7:39 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 11/10/2008
  • The cold air is making it harder to run, harder than usual anyways. At least the weather pattern is changing now, so hopefully I can adjust and adapt to it. I need to remember to keep drinking my fluids even though it's cold out. [14 mi @ 8:34 min/mi]
    14 mile run on 11/9/2008
  • Had to cut this run short as I felt sick after only four miles. That's Ok though... I'm going to run long on Sunday to try and get my body used to that for the upcoming race. [8 mi @ 8:18 min/mi]
    8 mile run on 11/8/2008
  • Only saw one other person on the trail tonight, a result of the time change. Too bad though, just because its dark doesn't mean you don't need to exercise... [6 mi @ 7:31 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 11/7/2008
  • Took a couple of days off after the tightness in my left foot. Felt a little better today. [10.2 mi @ 7:50 min/mi]
    10.2 mile run on 11/6/2008
  • Feeling a little pain on the top of my left foot. This started happening almost a week after my left leg/knee stopped hurting, so I wonder if they are related. When I walk the pain is nonexistent. I'm going to take a day off and see how things play out on Wednesday's 10 miler. [4 mi @ 7:31 min/mi]
Evening 4 mile run on 11/3/2008
  • A humid morning in November in Kansas? Very strange. Ran an out and back, running into the wind on the way back. I am enjoying the time change, as my body thought it got to sleep in a bit this morning. [8 mi @ 8:03 min/mi]
Morning 8 mile run on 11/3/2008
  • Happy Birthday to me. What a great day to discover more trails! I started this run thinking that I would go out seven or eight miles and turn around, but then I found where the trail picked back up and followed it for another few miles. It will be nice to have a 20+ mile route without having to run through intersections. [20 mi @ 8:30 min/mi]
    20 mile run on 11/1/2008
  • Walking with Kristen and our dogs. [4.5 mi @ 17:46 min/mi]

  • A short run on my day off. [4 mi @ 7:36 min/mi]
    4 mile run on 10/31/2008
  • Trying to get used to running in the morning again. I really didn't want to wake up, but at least it wasn't too cold. [8 mi @ 8:17 min/mi]
Morning 8 mile run on 10/30/2008
  • Another quick run. I think the taper before the marathon and the easy week after the marathon helped me more than just allowing me to recover. [10 mi @ 7:35 min/mi]
    10 mile run on 10/29/2008
  • Another good day. I'm wondering if this whole knee injury thing is behind me. It's fun to pass someone after you've run seven of eight miles and you can tell they're running a fast pace... :) [8 mi @ 7:25 min/mi]
    8 mile run on 10/28/2008
  • Felt horrible before I ran, but now I feel great. Coldest day of the year so far, but not quite cold enough for tights. [6 mi @ 7:31 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 10/27/2008
  • A quick run between a (losing) Chiefs football game and a pumpkin carving party. [6 mi @ 7:30 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 10/26/2008
  • I was starting to feel guilty about how little I've run this week, but then I remembered that I ran a marathon last weekend! This finishes my "easy" week, and I should be getting back on track with my mileage next week. [10 mi @ 7:56 min/mi]
    10 mile run on 10/25/2008
  • A good run in the cool weather. I think that my leg is recovering nicely with the limited miles this week. [6 mi @ 7:48 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 10/23/2008
  • On a business trip again. I had to piece together a few routes to get up to 10 miles, but managed come up with a route. [10 mi @ 8:07 min/mi]
    10 mile run on 10/22/2008
  • Stretching the legs a little; I need to be careful not to go too fast! This weekend's marathon was everything I had hoped to experience from the event, and I'm still feeling the high from finishing with a positive attitude. [6 mi @ 7:27 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 10/20/2008
  • A short run to stretch my legs a little after yesterday. Felt good. [2.7 mi @ 8:07 min/mi]
    2.7 mile run on 10/19/2008
  • The time I put in is gun time; I'm not sure what the chip time is yet. All in all a good run. My left leg wanted to cramp up a little when I was pushing harder, but if I backed off it was Ok. First leg was run at about 10 - 10:15 pace (6.7 miles) Second leg was run at about 8:20 - 8:45 pace (through 13.7) Third leg was run at about 9:20 - 10:00 pace (through 20.6) Final leg was run anywhere from 8:30 - 10:00 pace. Running the different legs of the race with my family was certainly helpful, a [26.2 mi @ 9:59 min/mi]
    KC Marathon on 10/18/2008
  • An easy run to get the blood flowing in my legs the day before the marathon. Today showed good progress for my left leg. To better describe the difference between today and Wednesday morning I'm going to use a scale from 0 to 10, 0 being no pain, 10 being "my leg is cut off." On Wednesday I was at a 4, and today I felt like I was at a 0.5. I could feel a little bit of something, but since I was going so easy today it didn't turn into anything. Very good news in time for tomorrow. [3 mi @ 8:20 min/mi]
    Pre-marathon 3 mile run on 10/17/2008
  • I think it rained an inch or more in the time it took me to run five miles, all of which was into a very strong headwind. It seemed that the rain let up a little two miles after my turnaround point. Fortunately the wind was at my back as I finished the run. My left leg is still bothering me, though I will say it doesn't hurt when I walk (which is different than a couple of weeks ago.) I don't know if that's a good sign or not. It feels as if the muscles on either side of my lower leg are f [10 mi @ 8:22 min/mi]

  • A misty day in the 60s. [6 mi @ 7:56 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 10/13/2008
  • A training run for next week's race. I ran the first seven with Kristen at her pace, then the next seven at my pace to simulate the relay. Hard to believe that I managed to get a sunburn in the middle of October. [14 mi @ 9:51 min/mi]
    14 mile run on 10/11/2008
  • Took off early today since we had to work late last night and ran 12 miles instead of vegging in front of the tv. Now its time to veg. :) [12 mi @ 7:46 min/mi]
    12 mile run on 10/9/2008
  • Getting back in the groove after a short couple of weeks. Consistent running with a few long days thrown in the middle seems to be working best for me. [10.15 mi @ 7:57 min/mi]

  • My left leg felt tight and weak, but loosened up after the first three miles. [6 mi @ 7:49 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 10/6/2008
  • Ran to the library with my little yorkie. She loves to run fast, but doesn't know the concept of pacing. Kristen picked her up from the library and I ran back home. [6.2 mi @ 7:54 min/mi]
    6.2 mile run on 10/5/2008
  • This past week messed with my running schedule and apparently also my endurance. These miles felt harder than they should, so I'm glad I made this run shorter than I had originally planned. [13.1 mi @ 8:20 min/mi]
    13.1 mile run on 10/4/2008
  • Back from my business trip; it's good to run on familiar trails. [6 mi @ 7:39 min/mi]

    6.2 mile run on 10/2/2008
  • For some reason my Garmin is having trouble picking up a signal in this area. Getting in late last night didn't give me enough time to scout out today's run, so I guessed an out and back and ended up a quarter mile short, hence the strange total distance. [7.7 mi @ 7:53 min/mi]
Morning 7.7 mile run on 10/1/2008
  • Didn't run yesterday due to business travel and a late night installing servers. Mapped out this morning's run before I went to bed last night, and after running it I think the route will be safe while I'm away from home. [6 mi @ 7:51 min/mi]
Morning 6 mile run on 9/30/2008
  • A long run after a fairly short week. My knee/left leg felt Ok, and I ran a fairly consistent pace. Other than a pit stop at our local Doubletree Hotel, the run was uneventful, which is good. [20.28 mi @ 8:19 min/mi]
    20.28 mile run on 9/27/2008
  • Taking it easy today again. Trying to be careful with my left leg. During the run it felt fine, but afterwards my knee/calf area hurt when I was walking around. [6 mi @ 9:00 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 9/26/2008
  • My left leg hurts when I walk, so I didn't run yesterday's afternoon session. It felt better today, so I went out at an easy pace, making sure not to break 8:00 min miles, but also staying ahead of a 9:00 min mile pace. Feel Ok now, but need to see how I do tomorrow. [6 mi @ 8:24 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 9/24/2008
  • So, I can barely walk, but when I run I feel fine. I'm sure that's not normal, so I'll keep an eye on it. [8 mi @ 8:33 min/mi]
Morning 8 mile run on 9/23/2008
  • A 12 mile run on Monday?! I skipped yesterday due to an achey knee and felt guilty about it, so I decided to move Tuesday's run to today, and Sunday's run to Tuesday (split up in an 8 and 7 mile run) and Monday's run on Friday (which was originally scheduled to be an off day and will now be 6 miles.) Whew! At least I can rationalize my laziness on Sunday. :) [12 mi @ 7:45 min/mi]
    12 mile run on 9/22/2008
  • I certainly felt the two weeks I took off from running a "long run." I have to be careful though not to peak too early for my October marathon, and leave enough juice in the tank for my November marathon. [20 mi @ 8:44 min/mi]
    20 mile run on 9/20/2008
  • Taking the day off from work today was a good idea. [6 mi @ 7:45 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 9/19/2008
  • Felt a little tired from last night but was able to get up and run. I plan on going to bed earlier tonight to catch up on some sleep. [6 mi @ 8:06 min/mi]
Morning 6 mile run on 9/18/2008
  • I think the new shoes are definitely paying off. Tonight I felt like I got in a rhythm and it just felt easy. Couple that feeling with the time I logged and this run was almost perfect. The one down side was that I had to work two hours late, so my evening was pretty much shot. [10.25 mi @ 7:29 min/mi]
    10.25 mile run on 9/17/2008
  • Good short afternoon run. [4 mi @ 7:22 min/mi]
Evening 4 mile run on 9/16/2008
  • Faster pace than I wanted but I also only planned on doing six this morning. Guess I'm curious just to see how I'll run with the new shoes. [8 mi @ 7:43 min/mi]
Morning 8 mile run on 9/16/2008
  • Finally got my new pair of shoes after putting nearly 600 miles on the last pair. I was feeling tweaks and pains from even the most casual run towards the end that I decided not to run my two long runs on Saturday and Sunday in an effort of preservation. Now with my new shoes and fresh legs AND awesome weather I seemed to bang out a pretty decent time. I just need to be careful to not push as hard as I did last week so I'm ready for a 20 miler by the end of the week. [6 mi @ 7:19 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 9/15/2008
  • Rainy day, easy run. [8 mi @ 8:37 min/mi]

  • Legs felt heavy today and it was very humid. [8 mi @ 8:39 min/mi]
Morning 8 mile run on 9/11/2008
  • I didn't prepare mentally for this run and paid the price. I ended up with a decent time, but I think that was mostly because I was able to focus more on the run in the later miles. [10 mi @ 8:04 min/mi]
    10 mile run on 9/10/2008
  • Nice run in the afternoon. [4 mi @ 7:19 min/mi]
Evening 4 mile run on 9/9/2008
  • A longer run this morning so my evening run can be shorter. We're buying new shoes tonight and didn't want to make that trip too late. [8 mi @ 7:56 min/mi]
Morning 8 mile run on 9/9/2008
  • Fall is here, at least for today. Upper 50s with a light drizzle made this a quick and easy run. [6 mi @ 7:32 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 9/8/2008
  • This was my evening run. Wanted to get 12 in for the total today so I waited a couple of hours after the Chiefs lost and went for another easy 6 miler. This was a bit faster than I had wanted, but I didn't feel like I was pushing, so hopefully no damage was done. [6 mi @ 7:38 min/mi]
Evening 6 mile run on 9/7/2008
  • This was my morning run. I took yesterday off of running because of a nagging pain, my garmin wasn't working, I ate something that was still disagreeing with me, and other reasons. Usually I can ignore one or two of those things, but it seemed the odds were stacked against me so I chose to rest some more on my rest week. This was an easy six miles I was able to get in before we had to go to church. I think this might become a Sunday ritual, six (or more) before church, then watching football [6 mi @ 7:53 min/mi]
Morning 6 mile run on 9/7/2008
  • Took yesterday off. Sometimes I have days where running is the last thing I want to do and yesterday was one of those days. Today's run was a quick run (for a morning run) in the fog. [6 mi @ 7:55 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 9/5/2008
  • A coldish (60s) rainy windy day made for a lonely day on the trail. Felt good though. [6 mi @ 7:32 min/mi]
Evening 6 mile run on 9/3/2008
  • A 20+ mph headwind on the way out reminded me that the coming Winter weather won't always be great and that I should enjoy the heat while it is here. Heading back was nice. [6 mi @ 8:08 min/mi]
Morning 6 mile run on 9/3/2008
  • Ran the first five miles at a fast clip (7:20/miles) then ran a little with Kristen as she was on the trail. Felt good after taking Sunday and Monday off. [7.5 mi @ 9:11 min/mi]
    7.5 mile run on 9/2/2008
  • Glad I was able to get through this run without my leg cramping up again. Felt a little tightness around mile 5, and again at the 14 mile mark, but that was it. I stopped at a Walgreens for some Gatorade late in my run. The clerk didn't seem pleased that I was dripping sweat in her store. :) [22 mi @ 8:51 min/mi]
    22 mile run on 8/30/2008
  • This week's runs are starting to catch up to me. I was very tired today. I'll be sure to get to bed early tonight so I'm fresh for tomorrow's long run. [6 mi @ 8:36 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 8/29/2008
  • Wow. It was hot and humid today, with a lot of thunder and lightning. It rained a little, but too late in the run to make any benefit. [6 mi @ 8:20 min/mi]
Evening 6 mile run on 8/28/2008
  • This morning I had a dream that I woke up and ran. Then I actually woke up and felt a little dejected that the great run I experienced was only in my head. Plus I was twenty minutes late! Oh well, let's just hope that doesn't become a new habit. [6 mi @ 8:19 min/mi]
Morning 6 mile run on 8/28/2008
  • Stopped to stretch after seven miles. Helped my calf in the for the remaining miles. [10.2 mi @ 8:20 min/mi]
    10.2 mile run on 8/27/2008
  • This was a good second run for the day. Ran a decent pace but didn't really feel like I was going very fast. [6 mi @ 7:42 min/mi]
Evening 6 mile run on 8/26/2008
  • I think I'm starting to get used to these morning runs. Nice and crisp this morning, I ran through the neighborhood before hitting the streets. Whatever animal I crossed paths with on Thursday last week made a lasting impression and I don't want to try my luck again. [6 mi @ 8:06 min/mi]
Morning 6 mile run on 8/26/2008
  • Not exactly how I imagined the weekend to go, but I did get my 30 miles in. I would say I achieved 80 - 90% of the desired workout total with the way I split the miles up. On this run I felt a little pang of cramping around mile 7 but was able to back off before it became too serious. I'll take tomorrow off and hopefully be back in order by Tuesday. [10 mi @ 8:24 min/mi]
    10 mile run on 8/24/2008

    11.3 mile run on 8/23/2008
  • Hot again. Supposed to be humid tomorrow too. Summer's not done yet! [6 mi @ 9:09 min/mi]
    6 mile run on 8/22/2008
  • Tired today. I'll sleep in a bit tomorrow which should help a lot. Physically I feel fine, no nagging injuries at the moment, which is a good thing. [6 mi @ 8:30 min/mi]
Evening 6 mile run on 8/21/2008
  • It was misting this morning, which made the run nice and refreshing. Still taking it easy on the pace to compensate for the additional miles this week. [6 mi @ 8:23 min/mi]
Morning 6 mile run on 8/21/2008
  • This started out as a nice easy run, but turned into a progression run. Original pace was 8:15/mile for the first five miles, then I made up a lot of that time on the way back. [10 mi @ 8:05 min/mi]
    10 mile run on 8/20/2008

Evening 6 mile run on 8/12/2008
  • Woke up a little earlier this morning so I wasn't as rushed as last week. I like running in the morning and again in the evening, as it's allowing me to get a lot of miles in with less of a time commitment at night. [6 mi @ 8:17 min/mi]
